It's a girl! [02 Jan 2008|01:03pm]
I just got off the phone with Michelle's mom and Michelle had the baby yesterday morning at 9:30. Her water broke at midnight on New Year's Eve! No name yet but she's eight pounds, six ounces and has lots of dark hair.

I don't know why this makes me happy [24 Nov 2007|05:51pm]
But it really does.

This clip is all over the place but it is unified in it's awesomeness.

Every evening at six p.m. Chris and I watch Family Ties. I was shocked to learn that until recently he had never seen it before. My attempts to initiate him into the joys of The Fact of Life and Laverne and Shirley were less than successful, but Chris can't help but laugh at everything that comes out of Alex P. Keaton's preppy little mouth. He sure looks pervish with a mustache, though.

Music is my hot, hot sex [17 Nov 2007|11:58am]
Chris and I have been mildly obsessed with Cansei De Ser Sexi lately. We'll ignore the fact that we first heard of them from an Apple commercial and instead focus on how awesome they are.

But don't take my word for it [16 Nov 2007|10:27am]
I've been reading this book forevvveeerrr but it's not a bad book, it's just dense and kind of Dickensian in that brevity is really not the author's goal. Anyway, it's Oil by Upton Sinclair.

Which is soon to be a P.T. Anderson movie with Daniel Day Lewis. Two of my favourite people! I think some of you agitator types would enjoy it. A lot of the plot involves strikes and labour and there's a lot of mention of the I.W.W.

I'm not usually one for reading more than one book at a time but Chris and I have taken to reading aloud to each other after the dishes are done but before our programs (shut up). We've been reading The Total Money Makeover (again, shut it).

I think the editor was asleep at the wheel with this one but despite it's repetitive repeatingness it's quite a useful read although it repeats things a lot. It's all about using cash instead of credit and getting your spending under control, which Chris and I could certainly use a healthy dose of from time to time.

On that note, I'm so excited for craft shopping with Michelle and Nat tomorrow followed by Nat's birthday party!

Scary Thoughts [17 Oct 2007|02:26pm]
It has come to my attention that I will be visiting Montreal on a shoestring budget (as in I might end up eating my shoe strings) so if anyone has any suggestions for anything I could do for free in the city I would appreciate it. I know your brain is working on coming up with something comical here (prostitution!) but I would really like useful suggestions (I'm looking at you, Melina. And Mathieu. And Braden. And Erin. And Chris).

I have been waking up with the most horrendous allergy symptoms so I've been taking some no name sinus medication which apparently blocks histamines and my will to live. If anyone is looking for some Halloween ideas I've got the insta-Zombie thing down pat.

Speaking of Halloween, it looks like we'll be hosting a scary movie and treats potluck here. I've heard back from a couple of people so it should be fun. If you want in let me know.

I finally heard from the HR department of Michelle's work and I'm going in tomorrow to do some paperwork. Though this does involve submitting a blank cheque I'm not getting my hopes up too much until I confirm that I don't have TB and I didn't commit any crimes in the last year unbeknownst to me. But still, yay!

An ode to [10 Oct 2007|08:05pm]
this guy at my brother's hockey game:

See that little black lap top bag by his feet? What do you suppose is in there? Important business documents? A snack for later? A crowbar in case some jerk ref tries to put his boy in the box? Oh no. He was equipped with a bicycle horn, a cow bell, two types of spinning noisemakers and a bicycle bell. When things went his way he would adopt a purposeful expression and carefully, yet promptly, select one to employ. And he was all alone. It was awesome.

TCB [23 Sep 2007|12:31pm]
The interview at Michelle's work went pretty well. I remembered most of the stuff I had planned on mentioning and I didn't sound too much like I was reciting off of a list (which I was). My only concern was that they had alloted an hour for the interview and it was done in about fifteen minutes. Everyone, including Michelle, seemed a little surprised about that so I thought that I should have perhaps gone into more detail (although to go into a lot of detail about something you don't know much about can only come out sounding like bullshit). And then I didn't hear anything at all from Michelle for a few days. Of course I panicked and thought she must be avoiding me because she didn't want to tell me what an idiot they thought I was. She called last night, though, and said it's pretty much a sure thing, they just have to check my references and then I have to go to HR to sign some papers. I'm not getting too confident because I haven't had the official word but I'm not stressing about it anymore.

Not to say I'm not stressing. I slept through my first supply call on Friday and felt super guilty for the rest of the day despite the fact that I've developed a full on phobia of supplying. Just thinking about it makes me want to hide under the bed. But we need the money with Melina's wedding next weekend, thanksgiving in Kitchener the next and Montreal at the end of October.

My grandparents recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary so we're going to take a lame picture in their backyard wearing matching outfits. Lovely.

The week following we've again been sucked in to looking after the dog and my siblings for a week while my parent's go to California.

Chris has some training at the end of October and gets to stay at the Fairmont for free so I'm tagging along and yarn shopping, hopefully, and meeting up with my secret pal host Robyn and hopefully Kate Gilbert and Veronik Avery as well. I'm so frickin' excited!

We should sublet our apartment for October.

Stupid Brain [18 Sep 2007|01:03am]
I went to bed an hour ago but couldn't fall asleep. The new early bird me is not cooperating with the (news to me) night owl me.

I've totally let go of my prevalent feelings of guilt for not working and I've been thoroughly enjoying my time lately with working on my new blog, my etsy shop and my knitting. It may not sound like much but it keeps me busy and makes me happy and I wish I could get paid for it.

Since I don't I have an interview at Michelle's work on Thursday. We met up on Friday to go over the questions and I am now very stressed. I apparently have to memorize many websites and other resources that were previously unfamiliar to me. I think Michelle's a little worried that I won't do well so that's adding to the pressure.

I wish I were independently wealthy.

Nat's my comedy dealer [13 Sep 2007|11:41pm]
Nat directed our attention to Demetri Martin today and we spent the better part of our evening having full body pain from laughing so hard. The first joke here is hard to hear but the funniest thing I've ever heard (except, perhaps, for Nat saying that Michelle's sister being born despite the fact that her father had a vasectomy was "magical").

TCB [11 Sep 2007|03:28pm]
Chris is on a business trip, if you consider binge drinking at a cottage just outside of town with your co-workers a business trip. Left to my own devices I'm doing what I do best: knitting, baking and listening to oldies. I've also watched a little Law and Order thanks to the Rogers representative who convinced me to go for the next cable package whilst I was upgrading our sluggish internet connection. I am dismayed to find that my treasured A&E of Jack Perkins, Bill Curtis and Quincy: M.E. has been replaced with Gene Simmonds, David Caruso and Dog: The Bounty Hunter. None of these people fall into the categories of artist or entertainer as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think Chris would mind me telling you that he passed his polygraph! He still probably won't hear anything conclusive for a few months but he's almost there. Let's keep all out appendages crossed for him.

Nat and Renee are coming over for a Yarn Over tonight. All night knitting! And probably some sleeping as Nat has to work tomorrow.

The clown that no one laugh's at, They all just wish he'd die. [04 Sep 2007|01:56pm]
I promise I'm not going to post here everything I post to the new blog but there are pics of the finished Seaton Cardigan (yes, it took one week) and my first awesome SP package over there. I plan on updating it every weekday so keep on a comin'.

We finally got our hand on season 2, disk 1 one of Extras last night. The David Bowie episode: brilliant! Even more brilliant is the Extras Backstage special feature interview with him. I didn't think I could love him more.

One of the first items I ever made for my Etsy shop, the chrysanthemum pillow, sold in my shop yesterday and was sent to San Jose today. I was happy to make a sale but sad to see it go.

I can't believe school has started already. I kicked off the new go-get-'er supply teacher me today by setting the alarm for eight AND THEN GETTING UP WHEN IT WENT OFF. I realize eight isn't that early but considering I got up at 11:30 on Saturday it's pretty impressive. The plan is to get up fifteen minutes earlier every day to 6:30 so that when I actually start getting calls I will be all bright eyed and bushy tailed. It's got disaster written all over it.

Celebrate good times [01 Sep 2007|03:05pm]
We had so. much. fun. at Robyn's wedding last night. Well, the ceremony was awkward, to say the least. The priest was certifiably insane.
1) He was wearing sandals
2) He made repeated references to Mike being "handsome" and Robyn being "gorgeous"
3) He gave us an in depth history of the church and it's building materials, including a proud description of the nine million dollar stained glass windows. He then gave the parish a little pat on the back for keeping poor families alive during the depression by employing the builders for the church. How bout you just give the nine million plus dollars to the starving families?
4) He laughed maniacally at his own jokes.
5) He got very aggressive when people didn't say the responses loudly enough.
6) He walked down the aisle during the homily and said "for those of you who do not raise their children with spirituality SHAME ON YOU!" he literally yelled the last part in to his microphone.

Robyn was very embarrassed and went around apologizing to all her friends at the wedding. We didn't care. We thought it was hilarious and later delighted in shouting Shame on You! throughout the evening.

Pictures! )

In other news I finally got my other Etsy birthday gift from Erin yesterday. I'm too lazy to get up a take a picture (again, was up very, very late last night) but here's the picture from the Etsy site:

Too cute! Thanks Erin!

RIBBON! [30 Aug 2007|07:22pm]
I have done an official knitting post over at the new blog. I had a lot to sat about knitting. A lot. You can vote on ribbons! Who doesn't like to carefully consider ribbon?

I got the beads I ordered like two days ago in the mail today and made a whole whack of awesome stitch markers for my shop. So far I've only listed the most boring ones but they're still pretty. I'm waiting to list the really awesome ones until Nat and Melina weigh in one which ones they're taking. Whatever they buy I'll order more supplies to make more for my site because they're just too fun.

My sister is in Boston right now. It's gotten to the point that I'm often jealous of my fourteen year old sister. I doubt it's ever the other way around.

Robyn's wedding is tomorrow! I debating whether to wear the dress I made or the dress I got at Mexx. The problem is they are both rather low cut and require imaginative undergarment devices. Thoughts?

I forgot to mention that I met Nat for lunch yesterday at Fathers and Sons (not our first choice, obviously. We really wanted to go to Spuds but it was closed for renovations). We still had all the fun you can pack in to an hour, however.

Chris a.k.a [info]dj_biz_monkey has a stressful day tomorrow so everyone please wish him luck and tell him to RELAX. I don't need him dropping dead of a heart attack, he's my meal ticket.
